Highs, Lows, and In-Betweens
by Mayumi Hirtzel

Once again, I hadn’t planned on participating in NaNo. But, when I learned that I could go in under “Rebel” status – paying less attention (or no attention) to the wordcount goals and simply writing for my own purposes – I climbed aboard.

I’d been working on a rewrite of 2014’s NaNo, a grimy space opera following the continuity I created in my Borderlands book From Hell (A Love Story), but it was slow going. The NaNo Rebel option was just what I needed to focus more acutely on upping the conflicts and deepening the character motivations for this follow-up book, which I’m hoping to finish by the end of the calendar year. The basic storyline remains the same from the original 2014 version, but everything else is different, not least being the introduction of a new villain….

The logline so far:

The Edge of the galaxy is a dangerous place. Especially for a husband-and-wife on the run for murder, a dwarf girl seeking to escape her predetermined fate, a bounty hunter searching for a ghost, and the smart ship trying to keep him safe. But with alien monsters, conniving criminals, and the galactic government chasing them down, they’re going to have to work together. Even if it kills them.
